What is a pinyin?

A pinyin is a Chinese pronunciation using Roman letters. It is mainly used in mainland China. In addition, there are four types of tones (four tones) in Chinese (putonghua), and it is common to attach them to pinyins as tone marks. Foreigners and Chinese children studying Chinese generally use this pinyin and tone marks to learn how to read Chinese characters. In Taiwan, pinyin is not the mainstream, and Bopomofo (bopomofo) is widely used.
